Swimming in Doncaster are thriving with more children than ever taking up lessons in the town’s pools.
More than 3000 school children learn to swim each year at Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust (DCLT) venues, attending from 78 schools in the borough.
As well as the school swimming lessons, some 6100 children and young people learn to swim on the Trust’s Choose Swim programme.
Kraig Kelly, head of leisure at DCLT, said: “We are thrilled by the amount of children and young people in our borough who are learning to swim.
“We’ve partnered with Swim England because we want all children to be safe around water at home and abroad.
“We provide a free swimming assessment to every child so that we can assess their confidence in the water and their ability.
“Swimming is a great life skill and one that we want every child in the borough to have.”
Choose Swim is run by DCLT, the largest swimming lesson provider in Doncaster, as well as weekly swimming lessons members get free access to DCLT’s pools and free access to ice skating at the Dome.
“Our Choose Swim programme offers seven stages of fun and exciting lessons developing all of the skills needed for children to be competent, confident and safe in the water.
“From April parents will have access to an online portal which will allow them to see their child’s progress at any time. We’ve listened to feedback in this area and are installing a new programme to keep parents up to date with the progress their child is making as we know how important this is to them.”
Membership of Choose Swim starts from £22.50 per month.News Archive
