Armthorpe Leisure Centre gets £1.1m refurbishment

ARMTHORPE LEISURE CENTRE GETS £1.1M REFURBISHMENT

Fitness fans and swimmers who use Armthorpe Leisure Centre are set to benefit from a package of improvements to the venue.

The Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust (DCLT) managed site, which is currently closed due to Covid-19 restrictions, is hoping to reopen following the works, mid-May.

Michael Hart, chief executive of DCLT said: “We are extremely pleased to have been able to improve key areas of Armthorpe Leisure Centre over the last few months and work is continuing to take place.

“While behind the scenes work to replace the ceilings, improve the air handling in the building and maintain the pool plant area might not be visible to returning customers the impact of these works certainly will be.

“As well as those vital works we have refurbished and increased the size of the gym at Armthorpe and kitted this out with brand new resistance and cardio equipment. We’ve also created a new fitness studio and improved the changing room shower facilities.

“We’ve been really pleased that 70% of the contractors who have worked on this refurbishment are from the Yorkshire region.

“The work is due to be finished by late Spring and we are hopeful that we will be able to welcome back our customers to the venue then.”

A new function space has also been created and a lift to the second floor has been installed to make the building more accessible.

Added Michael: “While our venues are closed, we’ve been running online classes both live and on-demand to help our customers and the local community to keep fit.

“We can’t wait to be able to welcome them back to our venues in a safe and socially distanced way as soon as the restrictions allow.”
