Social Isolation Alliance

Social Isolation Alliance

Social isolation and loneliness can affect people of all ages, at any point in their lives, and it can bring with it a range of challenges that can be difficult to overcome.

If you, or someone you know, is experiencing social isolation and loneliness and would like to connect with people in your community, Doncaster’s Social Isolation and Loneliness Alliance (SIA) may be able to assist.

The SIA is a group of voluntary, community and faith sector (VCFS) organisations that are working together, throughout Doncaster, to help anyone who is experiencing social isolation and loneliness.

The SIA can offer:

  • A variety of activities in each community - allowing you to meet new people or try a new activity.
  • Access to further support depending on your needs, including the Citizen’s Advice Bureau, the Job Centre, or other community groups within our network.
  • Opportunities to develop your skills through basic IT programmes, volunteer opportunities, and training.
  • Access to mental health and wellbeing support including counselling and peer support groups.
  • Information about available financial support such as foodbanks or hygiene products.
  • Specific support services, such as domestic abuse or carers support.
  • Like a foodbank but for mobile data, the National Databank, part of The Good Things Foundation, provides free mobile SIM cards for people who can’t access the internet. And DCLT are proud to be part of fixing the digital divide by acting as a databank within Doncaster.

We activate and gift the free mobile data to people experiencing data poverty or living on a low income in their community.

Doncaster Volunteer Bank

Doncaster Volunteer Bank is managed by Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust (DCLT). Doncaster Culture & Leisure Trust aim to offer a service that enables volunteers to express their interest, confirm their skills and availability, receive basic training, and then match with vacancies available within voluntary organisations across Doncaster. Led by DCLT's Social Isolation Alliance, the initiative will unite volunteers of all backgrounds – from residents with spare time, to individuals eager to give back to the community, and businesses seeking to strengthen their community involvement – with organisations needing support.

The program will operate through the Volunteero app, commissioned by Community Leisure as part of their sector support initiative. The app facilitates matching volunteers with 'missions' – specific opportunities that align with their skills, interests, and availability. This innovative approach allows for flexible volunteering that fits modern schedules while maximising community impact.
