Progress update from Thorne Leisure Centre

Major repairs and renovations to upgrade Thorne Leisure Centre are progressing with work now taking place on the pool area.

The refurbishment project began at the end of October 2022 and the team are working to a robust programme of works that will see the centre upgraded for the local community.

Roof and ceiling improvements have already taken place, work to refurbish the pool’s plant equipment is underway, and a package to replace the pool air handling unit will start next month (February).

Michael Hart, chief executive at Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust (DCLT), which manages the venue and is working in partnership with Doncaster Council on the improvement project, said: “We are pleased to report that work on the pool plant is taking place and the team will be starting to replace the pool air handling unit in the next few weeks.

“Thorne Parish Councillors were invited to the site last week to see the progress and to hear more about the plans and timelines.

“We’d like to thank the local community for their support and patience with the project as it progresses. Ultimately, we will have a much-improved venue for residents in and around Thorne, and we look forward to providing further updates on progress as work continues.”

DCLT is providing a range of activities in the community, at Coulman Road Pavilion Thorne and Moorends Miners Welfare, to enable local people to remain active and healthy while the venue remains closed.
