Changing Places Facilities

Accessible Facilities for Everyone

At our centres, we are committed to ensuring our facilities are accessible, inclusive and welcoming to all visitors. We are proud to provide Changing Places facilities at selected locations, enabling people with complex disabilities and their carers to use toilet facilities safely, comfortably and with dignity. A Changing Places toilet provides significantly more space and specialist equipment than a standard accessible toilet.

What is a Changing Places Facility?

Changing Places toilets are designed for people who cannot use a standard accessible toilet independently. These facilities provide the additional space and equipment needed for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, spinal injuries, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis and other conditions requiring extra support.

Typical Features Include

  • Height-adjustable adult changing bench
  • Ceiling track hoist
  • Centrally positioned peninsular toilet
  • Privacy screen
  • Accessible wash basin
  • Additional circulation space for wheelchair users and carers
  • Non-slip flooring
  • Emergency alarm system

These features help ensure users can transfer safely and maintain dignity while using the facilities.

Using the Facilities

Our Changing Places facilities are intended to support anyone who requires them. If the facility is locked, please speak to reception who will be happy to assist.

We encourage all visitors who require a Changing Places facility to use it whenever needed.

Important: Changing Places facilities are available to everyone who needs them, regardless of whether they are using the centre's services or activities. Visitors do not need to be attending a session or making a purchase to access the facility.
