Drowning Prevention Week 2025
Drowning Prevention Week 2025
14th – 21st June
Proudly Supporting a Safer, Smarter Culture in Water
At Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust, safety is at the heart of everything we do.
This Drowning Prevention Week (14th – 21st June 2025), we’re proud to be taking an active role in raising awareness and promoting life-saving education — because we believe drowning is preventable, and together, we can save lives.
Why Drowning Prevention Week Matters
Every year, Drowning Prevention Week highlights the dangers of water and the simple steps we can all take to stay safe. As a trusted leisure provider, we’re committed not just to fun and fitness, but to safeguarding our community — especially children — through education and access to safe swimming environments.
Our Two Core Messages This Year
1. Teach Them Early – Teach Them for Life
Swimming is not just a sport — it’s a life skill. Enrolling your child in swimming lessons as early as possible can significantly reduce the risk of drowning. That’s why we're doubling down on our commitment to early swim education:
-
We offer structured, age-appropriate swimming lessons
-
Qualified instructors who are passionate about building confidence in the water
-
Fun, supportive environments that teach more than strokes — they also teach survival
Enrol your child with Choose Swim, today and give them the skills to stay safe for life.
Swim Smart in Open Water – Learn with Us at Hatfield
As we head into summer, open water activities become increasingly popular. They also come with their own set of risks. At Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre, we offer supervised open water swimming via our partners at Swim your Swim with trained open water lifeguards and dedicated safe zones. It's the perfect way to enjoy the open water while learning how to swim smart in safe environments.
We focus on:
-
Understanding cold water shock
-
Recognising hidden hazards like currents and weeds
-
Building stamina and strength for open water endurance
-
Wearing the right kit, including wetsuits and floats
Swim and play safely in open water with us at Hatfield — your open water confidence starts here.
#TooLate Campaign – What You Need to Know
As part of our social media campaign, we’ll be highlighting critical drowning prevention messages with the theme:
“Too Deep. Too Late. Too Drunk. Too Late. Too Cloudy. Too Late. Too Weak. Too Late.”
These reminders can save lives — and we urge everyone to take a moment to understand what each one means.
-
Too Deep – Know your depth before diving in. Never guess.
-
Too Drunk – Alcohol and water never mix. Your judgement, reaction time and stamina are all impaired.
-
Too Cloudy – Poor visibility can hide hazards beneath the surface.
-
Too Weak – Don't push your limits. Exhaustion in open water can be fatal.
We’ll also be sharing general water safety tips all week long — follow us on social media and share with your family and friends.
